Whisky lovers, rejoice! The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is back from 30 April – 5 May 2025, and Murray McDavid has an incredible line-up of events for you to enjoy. Whether you’re a seasoned whisky enthusiast or beginning your journey, there’s something for everyone. From exciting new events to reimagined favourites and our much-loved classic experiences, this year promises to be truly special.

A New Era: The Dallas Dhu Distillery Tour →

After many years, the picturesque Dallas Dhu Distillery reopens its doors to celebrate a new era.

In 1898, the Dallas Dhu Distillery was designed and constructed by legendary icons of Scotch whisky, Charles Doig and Alexander Edward. After nearly a century of producing classic Speyside single malt, the distillery fired up its stills for the final time in 1983. Today, guests are welcomed back for a rare opportunity to step back in time, taking an up-close look at the distillery’s Victorian architecture and its wonderfully preserved whisky-making equipment.

In the heart of whisky country, at Murray McDavid’s Craft Bottling Hall at Dandaleith, the team will show you their innovative approach to the Art of Maturation whilst sharing a range of unique whiskies directly from some of their favourite casks. It’s rarely an easy selection, but you will choose your favourite to draw from the cask, bottle and label to take home and cherish.

 

Dallas Dhu Distillery: The Director's Tour →

Join Edward Odim, the Dallas Dhu Distillery Project Director (and Murray McDavid Chairman) for an unmissable opportunity to learn and discover fascinating insights behind the revival of one of the jewels in the crown of Scotland’s distilleries. Closed in 1983, this historic site is a fabulously preserved example of a bygone era of whisky production.

During this intimate tour, along with a range of special drams, Edward will share his passion for the Dallas Dhu Distillery Project and the local area of Forres. He’ll also share the story of how he and his team aquired the remarkable distillery. In this in-depth, access-all-areas tour, you’ll be guided through the rich heritage of the Victorian buildings, as you go behind the scenes at this special distillery.

With spirit from over 90 different whisky distilleries, maturing in over 120 different cask types, this exceptional warehouse is home to perhaps the widest variety of cask whisky under one roof in the whole of Scotland.

Step into Dallas Dhu House, the brand home of Murray McDavid, for an evening of traditional Scottish hospitality. Enjoy a crafted 3-course dinner, each course paired with a fine whisky. Nestled in the ruins of their Old Bothy, an area once infamous for illicit whisky making, this enchanting spot is the perfect setting to savour hearty drams, share laughter, and connect with fellow whisky lovers.

Gather around the bonfire under a starlit sky, enjoy open-mic live music and taste some exceptional drams. It’s the ultimate whisky adventure with a touch of magic. So, if you can play an instrument, bring it along and join in the fun!

Build your own Whisky Cask at Dallas Dhu Distillery's Cooper's Workshop →

Roll up your sleeves and have a go at building your own whisky cask at the iconic Dallas Dhu Distillery.

Casks are at the heart of good whisky making and our very own Cooper, Jason Taylor, will guide you on how to build a cask. After your gallant efforts at constructing your cask, enjoy a few artfully matured drams and a good chat with Jason about the craft of cask making.

Lunchtime Whisky Picnic at Murray McDavid's Findhorn Beach Huts →

Treat yourself to a delightful lunch on the beach with Murray McDavid! Join us at our charming beach huts on the stunning Findhorn Beach, overlooking the breathtaking Moray Firth. Enjoy freshly made sandwiches and light bites, all paired perfectly with three artfully matured whiskies presented by the Murray McDavid Team.

As you sip and nibble, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife! Findhorn Beach is a hotspot for dolphins, seals, and a variety of seabirds. So don’t forget to bring your binoculars and enjoy the natural beauty while you sip your dram!

Wildlife Whisky Walk with Edward Odim →

Join Murray McDavid’s Chairman, Edward Odim, for a Wildlife Whisky Walk that combines the beauty of nature with the magic of fine whisky. Starting at the stunning Victorian property, Dallas Dhu House the brand home of Murray McDavid, you’ll set out on a gentle ramble through the enchanting Sanquhar Forest and local wetlands.

Edward, a former BBC Natural History Producer and a passionate wildlife and bird enthusiast will lead the walk as you explore Speyside’s flora and fauna, pointing out everything from songbirds, lichen, spring blossoms and any other interesting natural history along the way.

And what’s a walk without a dram? You’ll enjoy stops to savour some of Edward’s favourite old and rare Murray McDavid whiskies which he has specially selected for the walk.

After your woodland wander, return to Dallas Dhu House for a relaxing farewell dram. With Spring in the air, there’s no better time to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Speyside’s nature.

Head of Whisky Creations at Murray McDavid, Dean Jode, invites you into their traditional maturation warehouses at Coleburn Distillery to bottle your very own Mission Gold whisky.

Dean will be opening three exceptional casks of old and rare Scottish spirit, distilled over 28 years ago. You will sample each uniquely matured whisky and choose your favourite which you will then hand fill into your bottle directly from the cask to take home and treasure.

Join whisky expert, Dean Jode, Head of Whisky Creations at Murray McDavid, for a special tasting direct from the cask.

Dean will be opening casks at Murray McDavid’s traditional Victorian Whisky Warehouse at Coleburn Distillery. He will describe his exciting pioneering approach to the Art of Maturation whilst sharing a few drams from some of his favourite casks.

With single malt and grain whiskies from over 90 different distilleries (possibly the largest variety of cask whisky under one roof in Scotland!), this tour gives a behind-the-scenes view of the innovative maturation techniques that go into creating Murray McDavid’s inspired Scotch whisky.

Join Murray McDavid at their charming beach huts in Findhorn, where local artist Jan Grigg (accompanied by a Murray McDavid Brand Ambassador) will guide you in creating your very own ‘Whisky & Waves’ seascape masterpiece. While you paint, you’ll sip on some wonderfully inspiring drams, soaking in the views and vibes. At the end of the session, take home your artwork to proudly display and show your friends.

Dallas Dhu Distillery is back! The new team, tasked with reviving the iconic distillery and producing whisky once again, are thrilled to invite you to an unforgettable day of celebration, culture and whisky. This marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Dallas Dhu.

Blend Your Own Whisky to Capture the Spirit of Dallas Dhu Distillery →

Join Dean Jode, Head of Whisky Creations at Murray McDavid, for a whisky blending workshop. You’ll have fun trying to create a blend that’s reminiscent of the vintage flavours of the long-lost Dallas Dhu Distillery spirit.

Guests will start this hands-on experience with a special dram produced at Dallas Dhu in the 1980s. After exploring the aromas and flavours of the traditional single malt that was once produced at Dallas Dhu, Master Blender, Dean, will share some tips and tricks as, together, you strive to rediscover the flavours that shine through this classic Dallas Dhu malt.

Crafting your unique blend will involve sampling and selecting spirit from a range of Speyside distilleries to create your own one-off 20cl bottle of Scotch whisky to take away, cherish and enjoy.

Dallas Dhu Distillery: Drams from the Archives →

Join whisky expert, Dean Jode, for an exclusive opportunity to dive into historic drams from Dallas Dhu Distillery’s Archives.

This in-depth experience offers an access-all-areas tour through the vintage distillery and will conclude in an unmissable masterclass of five historic drams produced in a bygone era.

You’re invited to step back in time for a special tour within the perfectly preserved distillery, built in 1898 by legendary icons of Scotch whisky, Alexander Edward and Charles Doig. You’ll be guided through the rich heritage of the Victorian distillery, whilst considering the building’s historic design and its original whisky-making machinery.

The experience will conclude in a private tasting room, where you will be expertly guided through five vintage bottlings of single malt whisky distilled at Dallas Dhu between the 1970s and 1980s.

During the event, we invite you to register your interest to be one of the first to buy your own cask or bottle of precious spirit from the new era of Dallas Dhu Distillery.

As the Spirit of Speyside Festival draws to a close, and you’re feeling the effects of the week, join Edward and colleagues at Murray McDavid for a ‘Hair of the Dog Walk’ ; a laid-back, recuperative stroll on the beach at Findhorn, a charming old fishing village on Moray’s beautiful coast. Starting at the Murray McDavid beach huts with a dram, you’ll set off for a walk then return to the beach huts for a picnic and more drams – a perfect cure for a hangover!
