As the seasons change, so does our latest collection. The Murray McDavid Autumn Release brings together ten new expressions, each selected to showcase the influence of maturation and the different ways cask selection can shape Scotch whisky. Five of the ten spirits have never been bottled as part of our core releases before, making this a particularly exciting collection to explore.
From venerable Highland and Speyside single malts to an intriguing Lowland Mystery Malt, this release takes us from traditional Oloroso Sherry butts to Bourbon barrels, Tawny Port, Margaux wine, Pedro Ximénez Sherry and even Koval Rye whiskey casks.
At the heart of every bottle is our Art of Maturation philosophy: understanding the character of the spirit, selecting the right cask and giving each whisky the time and environment it needs to develop.

In 1898, legendary whisky brothers John and Tommy Dewar founded Aberfeldy Distillery along the Pitilie Burn, which flows with flecks of ancient alluvial gold. This ‘Heart Malt’ of the famed Dewar’s blend is shaped by patient, slow whisky making, and today, makes its debut in our treasured Mission Gold series.
This superb Aberfeldy spirit is carefully crafted with long fermentation and a slow-paced distillation, resulting in a luscious single malt. Matured for 24 years inside a traditional 500-litre Sherry butt, the esters have refined to reveal a beautiful bouquet – This indeed, is a ‘Golden Dram’!
Nose: Pear crumble, quince, waxy orange
Palate: Fresh orchard, oily esters, oak spice

“Old Sherry butts were expertly coopered using much thicker staves than modern casks and hold twice as much whisky as hogsheads, the standard cask used in the whisky industry. These old-style butts allow for a gradual, gentle and refined maturation – the result is a fantastically rich and quaffable dram.”

This is a ‘tea-spooned’ blended malt Scotch whisky containing 99.999% of a single malt from just one distillery in the Highlands of Scotland, that use tall stills noted for their giraffe-like necks. These stills produce a famous elegant, light and aromatic spirit that’s much appreciated by whisky lovers around the world
“To fully develop this fine, delicate spirit, we introduced influences from France and Spain. We married a Margaux wine cask and a PX Sherry cask from Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola to achieve a beautifully balanced and characterful dram, introducing ‘Va-Va-Voom’ to this chic 28-year-old blended malt Scotch whisky.”

For 200 years, Mortlach Distillery, one of Dufftown’s original ‘Seven Stills’, has been crafting a remarkable spirit renowned for its exceptional quality. Affectionately known as the Beast of Dufftown, its bold and robust character matures best in Sherry casks and is a favourite among whisky lovers from around the world.
“Our Whisky Creations Team has risen to the challenge of taming Mortlach’s weighty spirit – first maturing it in a standard ex-bourbon hogshead, and then, for its final four years in a PX sherry-soaked barrique from our partners Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola; a fitting tribute to this revered and legendary Speyside malt.”

Established in 1824, Balmenach is one of Speyside oldest distilleries, its name translates from Gaelic as ‘the middle farm’ referencing the agricultural origins of the Scotch whisky industry. Today, the distillery continues to produce a style of single malt that allows the sweetness of the barley to shine in every drop.
“Fully matured for eleven years in first-fill Bourbon barrels, the mellow influence of the American oak gently complements Balmenach’s creamy character. Over the years, layers of lingering sweetness and lush complexity developed within this captivating dram that transports you to the barley rich fields of Speyside.”

Established in 1825, the charming Ben Nevis Distillery proudly sits at the foot of the UK’s highest mountain, from which it takes its name. The traditional distillery is renowned for its excellent, hearty spirit, which we have honoured by maturing in unique Oloroso Sherry casks from Bodega Ximénez-Spínola, in Jerez.
“The Oloroso Sherry that was made in the casks to mature this Ben Nevis had been produced using the sweet Pedro Ximenez grape, instead of the typical dry Palamino grape. This special creation is a delicious harmony of tradition and innovation – a new chapter in a familiar tale of Sherry and Scotch whisky.”

Opened in 2015, on the site of the old Imperial Distillery, super-modern Dalmunach is a beacon of Scotch whisky innovation and heritage. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the 10–year landmark to release this Dalmunach, which we’ve matured in rye whiskey barrels from our cask partners Koval Distillery, in Chicago.
“We finished this barley rich spirit of Dalmunach for nearly four years in Koval’s compact 110-litre American oak casks. The bold influences of the rye whiskey have introduced a comforting blanket of sweet and spicy notes, which have intertwined with the creamy Speyside spirit – Slainte!”

Mannochmore Distillery is a product of the 1970’s Scotch whisky boom and unusually was built on the grounds of another distillery, Glenlossie, established 100 years earlier. Typically, only presented by independent bottlers, here we share this charming Speysider in true Murray McDavid style.
Initially matured in traditional hogsheads, this light and fruity spirit developed an elegant complexity. To further enhance its character, for its final five years, this Mannochmore was in Tawny Port barriques from Caves de Murça, our cask partners in Portugal, which gave this fine dram its pink blush and added depth – enjoy!
Nose: Bakewell tart, strawberry, pastry

In 1833, Royal Brackla became the first Scottish distillery to receive Royal Warrant, granted by King William IV. This luxurious Highlander is most celebrated when matured in Sherry casks. Here, we marry this noble spirit with influences of PX Sherry barriques, from Sherry–making royalty – Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola.
“Starting its development in a traditional Sherry butt, this regal single malt was destined for greatness, as it gradually refined in the large European oak cask. By further maturing this Royal spirit in barriques from our prestigious cask partners in Jerez, we have introduced layers of opulence, truly fit for a king!”

In 2014, ‘a bunch of rocket scientists’ joined Fife’s whisky-making revival, bringing innovation, super-efficiency and sustainability to the art of distilling. The hi-tech Lowlanders at Inchdairnie Distillery produce a range of brilliantly bold, youthful spirits that shine far beyond their years!
“We took Inchdairnie’s Strathenry Lowland single malt and finished it for a year in Oloroso Sherry casks, where, unconventionally, the Sherry was made with sweet Pedro Ximénez grape as opposed to dry Palomino grape. This superb synergy created an age-defying dram that showcases pioneer distilling and the Art of Maturation!”
